The Texas Stars split the series with the Manitoba Moose last week and secured the season series with a win on Friday at Canada Life Centre.
Wednesday's matchup began with a Moose goal through traffic from defenseman Dylan Coghlan that beat Remi Poirier over the glove. Halfway through the first period, Coghlan tallied his second of the night on the power play for Manitoba.
With just under four minutes left in the frame, Cameron Hughes scored his 100th AHL goal on the power play when Matej Blumel found him high in the slot and snapped it over the blocker of Moose goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis. The Moose led 2-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Texas tied the game at 2-2 seven minutes into the second period when Jack Becker and Chase Wheatcroft pressed the defenders along the boards, freed the puck and found Kyle McDonald in the right circle. McDonald went to his signature one-knee shot and beat DiVincentiis on the glove side.
With two minutes left in the frame, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby struck on the power play for Manitoba and regained the lead 3-2 after 40 minutes of play.
The third period began with a goal from Manitoba's Ben King, who fired the puck past Poirier and gave the Moose a two-goal cushion. The Stars put up 15 third period shots but couldn't solve DiVincentiis and fell 4-2.
Friday's contest began the same way Wednesday's ended—with a Ben King goal. King deflected a shot past Stars goaltender Ben Kraws to give the Moose a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission.
Nearing the halfway point of the second period, Mason Shaw added to the Moose lead when Parker Ford found him on the backdoor of Kraws' net and Shaw tapped it in. The Stars continued to tally shots but Kaapo Kahkonen stood tall in net.
With less than two minutes left in the frame, the Stars found a spark from rookie forward Anthony Romano who threw a puck on net that deflected off a skate in front to sneak by Kahkonen. The Moose led 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Texas stormed back in the third period where they talled three goals. The tying goal came from Arttu Hyry who jumped on a rebound from Matej Blumel's shot while Texas was on the penalty kill. The goal marked the Stars' sixth short-handed goal of the season.
Just under two minutes later, Blumel scored his 23rd goal of the season, this time on the power play. Blumel skated into the zone and fired a shot from just above the left circle that beat Kahkonen and gave Texas their first lead of the game.
Texas held Manitoba off the board for the rest of the third period and the dagger came from Kole Lind who shot the puck from the Texas blue line into the Moose empty net.
The Stars repaid Wednesday's favor and won 4-2, taking the season series with the victory.
The Texas Stars return home to begin a six-game homestand, starting Friday and Saturday with the Colorado Eagles.
Colorado currently holds the second place position in the Pacific Division with a record of 27-13-4-2 and 60 points. They are just two points shy of first place in their division behind the Calgary Wranglers.
