The Texas Stars swept the Chicago Wolves in a weekend series at Allstate Arena and officially clinched a spot in the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs.

In Friday's contest, the Stars and Wolves played nearly the entire first period without any scoring but with just 31 seconds left in the frame, Chase Wheatcroft broke the deadlock and scored his 10th of the year. Wheatcroft skated into the slot, drew a hooking penalty that gave the Stars a temporary extra attacker due to the delayed penalty, and cleaned up a rebound off of Matej Blumel's initial shot. Texas carried a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

In the middle frame, just before the halfway point, an odd play near the Chicago blue line led to Kole Lind firing the puck towards Dustin Tokarski's net, where a moving Cameron Hughes tricked him, leading to the puck bouncing past Tokarski and in. Lind's goal gave Texas a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes..

The third period began with more Chicago chances, but Remi Poirier stood tall in net for Texas. Just over six minutes into the period, Emilio Pettersen tallied his second short-handed goal of the season when he put the pressure on Chicago's power play unit behind their own net, stole the puck, tried a wraparound, and cleaned up his own rebound to extend the Stars' lead to three.
The Wolves made an effort to comeback but nothing was getting by Poirier. He made 43 saves on 43 shots to earn his third shutout of the season and fourth of his career. The Stars skated away with a 3-0 win on Friday—needing just one point to clinch a spot in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Saturday, the Stars were idle but they could clinch a spot through an Iowa Wild loss of any kind against the Ontario Reign. Saturday's match between those two ended with a 4-2 Iowa win, so the Stars fate was back in their own hands.

Sunday, the Stars opened the scoring just five minutes into the first period, before adding two more goals within a three minute window. Hughes lit the lamp first, sniping the puck past Ruslan Khazheyev from the left circle for his 21st goal of the year. Next, Blumel tallied his 34th of the season with a one-timer from high in the slot off a pass from linemate, Justin Hyrckowian. After that, Lind scored on the power play when Kyle Capobianco found him all alone in the left circle. Lind one-timed a shot past Khazheyev to make it a 3-0 lead just eight minutes into the game.

Toward the end of the first, the Wolves got on the board for the first time in two games against Remi Poirier, who had shut them out March 2 and again Friday, when Bradly Nadeau scored twice to bring Chicago back within one. The Stars led 3-2 after 20 minutes of play.

In the middle frame, Blumel scored his league-leading 35th goal of the season just over one minute into play. He raced up the left wing and was one-on-one with a defender, before sniping the puck past Khazheyev to make the score 4-2. After the fourth goal, the Wolves pulled their goaltender and Tokarski entered the game. The Stars put up only three shots in the period while Chicago logged 12 but Poirier didn't let anything by him. At the end of two, the score was 4-2 Texas.

In the final period, the Stars added another goal quickly, this time from the stick of captain Curtis McKenzie. McKenzie positioned himself in front of the net and cleaned up the rebound in front, off of a Blumel shot.
The Stars kept the 5-2 lead through the rest of the game and secured their spot in the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs with a win.

In the second game, the score was much closer, but thanks to a hat trick from Matej Blumel, the Stars came out on top 5-4. Magnus Hellberg earned his 21st win, good for third in the league (T-Devon Levi).

The Monsters are 4-6-0-0 in their last 10 games—including two losses by shutout.
