WOLVES EDGE STARS 3-2
Nov 23, 2011Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (7-9-0-1, 15 points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (8-6-0-2, 18 points) 3-2 in front of 5,901 fans at Cedar Park Center on Wednesday night. Chicago goalie Matt Climie (6-2-0) stopped 40 of 42 shots faced for his fifth straight win. Wolves’ defenseman Kevin Connauton registered a goal and an assist on the night. Defenseman Adam Polasek and left wing Antoine Roussel also scored for Chicago, which improved to 6-4-0-1 on the road. Two Stars’ skaters had multi-point nights. Defenseman Jordie Benn notched a goal and an assist while center Scott Glennie set up both Stars goals. Texas goalie Tyler Beskorowany (1-4-0) stopped 24 of 27 shots as the Stars fell to 3-5-0-1 at home. The Stars travel to Houston this Friday at 7:35 p.m. to take on the Aeros.
Chicago opened the scoring at 1:16 of the first period. Defenseman Adam Polasek sailed a shot into the Texas net for a 1-0 lead. Left wing Nathan Longpre set up the goal. The Wolves struck again at 3:55, grabbing a 2-0 lead. Left wing Antoine Roussel netted his first goal of the season while left wing Matt Clackson and defenseman Kevin Connauton each added an assist. Texas responded at 6:27 with a power-play goal by center Ryan Garbutt. Defenseman Jordie Benn and center Scott Glennie helped trim the Wolves’ lead to 2-1.
Chicago scored the lone second-period goal with 3:47 remaining in the frame. Kevin Connauton slapped his sixth goal of the year past Beskorowany for a 3-1 Wolves lead. Forwards Mark Mancari and Darren Haydar each had an assist on the eventual game-winning goal.
Texas got on the board for the second time on the night at 7:51 of the third period. Jordie Benn blasted a shot through traffic on the power play. Forwards Francis Wathier and Scott Glennie assisted to pull Texas within a goal at 3-2.
Texas travels to Houston on Friday, November 25th at 7:35 P.M. and returns home on Saturday, November 26th at 7:00 P.M. to face the Aeros.
