Texas Wins Third Straight, Extends Point Streak to Five

Feb 24, 2022

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, won their third straight game for the first time this season, scoring four unanswered goals in a 4-1 victory against the Iowa Wild Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Wild outshot the Stars 14-5 in the opening frame, but Matt Jurusik stopped all 14 attempts in a scoreless first 20 minutes. Both teams were unsuccessful on first period power plays.

Iowa grew their shots advantage to 21-7 when Kyle Rau put the Wild on the board midway through the second period. Rau deflected a point shot past Jurusik to make it 1-0. Texas’ fourth line answered with their third goal of the road trip already when Fredrik Karlstom swept a rebound in the left circle through the legs of Hunter Jones with 4:09 left in the stanza.

Texas went in front on a late power play when Ty Dellandrea snapped a shot from the high slot that beat Jones with 50 seconds left in the period. It was Texas’ first power play goal in 23 opportunities dating back to Feb. 11. The Stars, who were outshot by the Wild 24-12 through 40 minutes, carried the narrow lead into the third.

Yauheni Aksiantsiuk, who recorded his first AHL assist in the second period, scored his first goal on a third period power play to make it 3-1 Texas with 14:22 remaining. Aksiantsiuk was later named the first star thanks to his two-point night. Oskar Back added an empty net goal to cap the scoring. Jurusik stopped 30 of 31 shots for his third straight win.

The Stars have now picked up at least a point in eight straight road games and five straight games overall.

Texas next travels to Rockford for two games against the IceHogs Saturday at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday at 4:00 p.m at BMO Harris Bank Center.
