CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars will begin the 2016-17 regular season by hosting the Charlotte Checkers in a pair of games this weekend.

October 14 at 7:30 p.m. CST and October 15 at 7 p.m. CST vs. Charlotte Checkers:
The Stars host the Checkers in a back-to-back season opener. The Stars have a perfect 7-0-0-0 record in home openers. The two teams last met for a Stars home-opener in 2012-13, with Texas skating away in a 4-3 shootout victory. When beginning their seasons on the road, the Checkers hold a 3-2-0-1 mark. The Stars are 6-1-0-0 all-time in season-opening games historically.

October 6, 2016 at San Antonio Rampage, 3-2 Win (Preseason):
The San Antonio Rampage knotted the score with less than a minute to play in regulation, but Branden Troock was the hero with the overtime-winner to lift the Texas Stars to a 3-2 win on Thursday at AT&T Center in the first of two preseason matchups between the two teams. Zach Bell and Caleb Herbert also scored for the Stars in the win. Phil Desrosiers stopped 16 of 17 shots in just over 34 minutes of action, and Landon Bow was awarded the win after turning away 15 of 16 shots.
October 8, 2016 vs. San Antonio Rampage, 3-1 Loss (Preseason):
AJ Greer tallied a pair of goals to pace the San Antonio Rampage offense as the Texas Stars fell, 3-1, on Saturday evening at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park to close out their preseason schedule. Ludwig Bystrom scored the lone Texas goal. Garry Nunn was the other Rampage goal-scorer. Landon Bow, who stopped 11 of 13 shots, suffered the loss for Texas before Phil Desrosiers came on in relief where and made five saves on six shots.

Friday’s season opener will mark Travis Morin’s eighth season in a Texas Stars sweater. The Texas captain is the last original Star remaining from the team’s inaugural season (2009-10), and is the franchise leader in career games played, goals, assists and points. Friday’s game also marks the third season behind the bench for head coach Derek Laxdal. Laxdal holds an 80-47-21-4 record with Texas, including back-to-back playoff appearances. Brendan Ranford is the team’s top-scorer returning from last season, when he tallied 59 points (19-40=59).

Friday and Saturday, fans who arrive early will receive a magnet schedule of the 2016-17 regular season from ABC Home and Commercial Services.
Friday’s matchup is a Hat Trick Friday with $3 specials on beer and soft drinks, and $4 specials on Robert Mondavi Private Selection Wine.
Saturday is also a Texas Lottery Lucky Row Night where the first Stars player to score wins free scratch-off tickets for a lucky row of seats at H-E-B Center. Fans can also enjoy Coke Zero Family Four-Packs on Saturday with four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks starting at just $16 per person.
