Ritchie Scores his 50th Career AHL Goal in Texas Win

CEDAR PARK, Texas -- The Texas Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and held off a comeback attempt from the San Antonio Rampage for a 4-3 win on Saturday in front of 5,951 fans at Cedar Park Center.

Travis Morin's second period goal held up as the game-winner and the Stars' captain finished with a two-point night. Philippe Desrosiers made 29 saves in the win, and Brett Ritchie also tallied his 50th career AHL goal for Texas (26-18-3-3).

The Stars head north of the border Tuesday to visit the Manitoba Moose for the first time this season at 7 p.m. CST.

The Stars offense was off and rolling in a three-goal first period that started with Esa Lindell's eighth of the season at 10:16 off a wrist shot at the center of the blue line through traffic. Morin then found Ritchie at the left side of the goal crease four minutes later off a rebound to make it a 2-0 Texas lead, and Brendan Ranford deflected Stephen Johns' point shot with 45 seconds remaining in the period to make it 3-0 entering the break.

The Rampage (20-21-7-0) started their comeback push in period two thanks to Borna Rendulic, who scored a pair of goals to close the Texas lead to one. Rendulic slipped home his ninth of the season on a slap shot from the right circle at 1:58 and snapped home his 10th at 7:31 stickhandling through the slot.

Morin responded for the Stars with a rebound goal at 14:20 for his 14th of the season to make it 4-2 Texas. Julius Honka recorded the assist.

With the goalie pulled, and the extra attacker on the ice, Maxim Noreau scored in the final minute for the Rampage to seal the final score.

San Antonio's Roman Will suffered the loss in net with 33 saves.

Texas finished 1-for-4 on the power play and held the Rampage scoreless in five man-advantage chances.
