ONTARIO, Calif. - Denis Gurianov proved the lone goal of the game and Mike McKenna put in another shutout performance in net to lead the Texas Stars to Round Two of the Calder Cup Playoffs in a 1-0 win over the Ontario Reign on Tuesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
Texas (3-1) eliminated the Reign (1-3) in four games. Between Games 3 and 4 of the series, the Texas veteran stopped all 91 shots he faced from the Reign to anchor the Stars series win. He earned the win with 47 saves on Tuesday.
Gurianov's series-winner came 6:54 into the third period after a pair of scoreless frames. Roope Hintz set up a rebound chance for Gurianov on an odd-man rush for the forward's second of the postseason.
From there, Ontario made their final pushes to try and get the game back to even, but McKenna turned aside all 22 shots he saw in the third and the Stars picked up their first series win in four seasons under head coach Derek Laxdal.
Texas will face the winner of the Tucson-San Jose series, which is currently tied 1-1. Once the Stars' second-round opponent has been determined, a full schedule will be announced.
