Shore Scores his Team-Leading Seventh of the Season
DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Texas Stars tallied a late goal to pull within one, and made a final push with the extra attacker, but Leland Irving and the Iowa Wild held on for a 3-2 win on Saturday night in front of 6,536 in attendance at Wells Fargo Arena.
Shore's team-leading seventh goal of the season was set up by Julius Honka's centering pass from behind the net with 2:45 left in regulation to make it a 3-2 deficit for the Stars (4-2-0-0), and that's as close as Texas could come. Irving's 29 saves on the night were the difference as the veteran goaltender made a variety of stops on quality scoring chances for Texas all game.
Texas and Iowa (2-3-1-1) face off again Sunday at 3 p.m. CST.
Derek Hulak opened up the scoring 8:33 into the first on a breakaway goal for his second of the year generated by a Justin Dowling pass. The Wild answered back with a pair of goals in the final 30 seconds of the first to take a 2-1 lead. Zach Palmquist snapped home his first career goal from the slot at 19:31 and Daniel Keranen converted a penalty shot chance at the end of the period.
After a scoreless second, Jordan Scroeder tapped home a power play goal at 11:55 of third to push the Wild up 3-1.
The Stars were held scoreless on five power play chances while Iowa finished 1-for-5.
Maxime Lagace stopped 17 of 20 shots in net for the Stars and suffered the loss.
