Texas Stars Sign Left Wing Curtis McKenzie to ATO

CEDAR PARK, TX – The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that left wing Curtis McKenzie has signed an amateur tryout contract on Wednesday.
McKenzie, 22, joins the Stars after completing his senior season at Miami University of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), where he recorded 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) and 80 penalty minutes in 39 games played. The Golden, British Columbia native played in 158 career games for the Redhawks (NCAA Division I), posting 80 points (29 goals, 51 assists) and 285 penalty minutes. McKenzie was a three-year teammate (2009-2012) with current Stars forward Reilly Smith and he helped Miami win the CCHA regular season title twice (2009-10, 2012-13), the 2011 CCHA Tournament and he made four-straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2010-2013), including reaching the 2010 Frozen Four (National Semifinals).
Prior to his college hockey career, the six-foot-two, 205-pound left wing played two seasons of junior hockey with the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). In 102 career BCHL games he had 74 points (33 goals, 41 assists) and 171 penalty minutes and helped Penticton win the 2008 BCHL Championship. McKenzie was drafted by Dallas in the sixth round (159th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
The Texas Stars continue their three-game home stand on Friday April 5th against the Oklahoma City Barons for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff at Cedar Park Center.
