Texas Signs McMurtry and Anselmini to AHL Contracts

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, announced Thursday they have signed rookie forward Mike McMurtry and rookie defenseman Brandon Anselmini to AHL contracts for the upcoming 2016-17 season.
McMurtry (mihk-MEHR-tree), 24, joined the Texas Stars near the end of last season after completing a four-year career at Northeastern University. The 6-foot, 180-pound native of Greely, Ontario, appeared in five regular season games for the Stars with three points (0-3=3), plus three playoff games. McMurtry tallied 80 points in 141 games over his collegiate career and served as an alternate captain in his senior season to help guide the Huskies to the Midwest Regionals of the NCAA tournament.
Anselmini (AN-suhl-MEE-nee), 23, enters his first full professional season after a four-year stretch at Ferris State University. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound defenseman appeared in 149 career games for the Bulldogs and recorded 56 points (13-43=56). The Guelph, Ontario product also tallied an assist in four ECHL games last year for the Orlando Solar Bears after finishing his senior collegiate season.
The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, and will begin their eighth season at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park in October.
