MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, pushed past the Milwaukee Admirals tonight with a 4-1 victory at the U-W Milwaukee Panther Arena. The Stars won their second straight contest and are 1-0-1-0 against the Admirals this season.
Texas stood even with Milwaukee for most of the game, but held the Admirals to a late third period goal thanks to 23 saves from netminder Landon Bow. In addition to the team’s defensive effort, the Stars notched their first goal on the power play goal on their first opportunity of the game. Travis Morin collected the puck in front of the crease on a pass from Justin Dowling and quickly dished it across to Erik Condra who was wide open at the bottom of the left circle. The winger scored his eighth goal of the season on the practically empty net at 14:32 of the first period. The Stars finished the game 1-for-2 on the power play.
Texas added to their lead in the second period. Winger Adam Mascherin bumped up to join Denis Gurianov and Dowling after the first period and earned the push with a pair of second period goals. After a puck bounced to the front of the net, the rookie snapped the effort past Admirals goaltender Troy Grosenick at 7:39 of the middle period.
Mascherin continued his scoring surge, netting his fifth goal in two games at 18:04. Dowling cruised into the offensive zone and dropped a pass off to Mascherin at the left circle. His quick wrist shot snuck inside the post to give Texas a 3-0 lead.
The Stars tacked on one extra goal in the third period. Joel L’Esperance scored his team leading ninth goal of the season on a rebound in front of the net. The 3-on-2 transition resulted in Morin’s initial shot being blocked by Grosenick before L’Esperance managed to lift his third shot on goal past the netminders pad.
A late power play goal spoiled the shutout for the Stars as Matt Donovan scored his ninth goal of the season to put the Admirals on the board with three minutes left in the game. Milwaukee ended the night with one goal on six power play opportunities.
The Stars continue on the road and face the Grand Rapids Griffins tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. for their second game of the 3-in-3 this weekend.
The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, will return to the H-E-B Center on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7:00 p.m. to face Milwaukee on H-E-B Food Drive Night.
