Stars Fall Short in Charlotte in 3-1 Loss
Nov 10, 2014CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Drew MacIntyre stifled the offense on Monday night for the Charlotte Checkers to hand the Texas Stars a 3-1 loss at Time Warner Cable Arena.
Travis Morin was the only goal-scorer for Texas and Jack Campbell stopped 30 of 32 shots in the loss. Despite the result, Texas maintains their two-point lead at the top of the AHL’s West Division.
The Stars (6-3-2-0) visit Grand Rapids on Friday at 6 p.m.
The Checkers (4-7-0-0) opened up the game’s scoring with the only goal of the first period as Brendan Woods followed up a shorthanded breakaway chance that Campbell stopped to stuff in a rebound goal at 7:49.
Morin’s sixth of the season evened the game at 3:44 of the second off a one-timer from the right circle. Derek Meech and Matej Stransky tallied the assists. It was Morin’s team-leading 18th point of the season and the Stars forward has tallied points in seven of his last eight games now.
Charlotte responded five minutes later with Greg Nemisz’s fifth of the season, stuffing a loose puck past Campbell through a scrum in front of the net to make it 2-1.
Brody Sutter added an empty-net goal for the Checkers with 22 seconds remaining in the game.
Jesse Root made his season debut for the Texas Stars after being called up from the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads earlier in the day. Branden Troock also returned to the lineup for his fifth game of the season after being called up as well.
Texas went 0-for-4 on the man-advantage while the Charlotte was scoreless in five chances.
