Stars End Road Trip with 6-2 Loss in Milwaukee
Oct 29, 2019MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, fell to their Central Division counterpart, the Milwaukee Admirals 6-2 on Tuesday night in Milwaukee. Texas battled to tie the game at 2-2 in the third period but Milwaukee powered forward with four goals in the final 15 minutes of the game.
Texas started off strong early, spending most of the first three minutes in the offensive zone but Connor Ingram stood tall for the first 20 minutes. Texas and Milwaukee traded first-period power plays and the Stars came close on a few chances. The best opportunity for the Stars came from Connor Bleackley, who hit the crossbar on a breakaway chance. Jake Oettinger also saw his fair share of shots in the period, as he and Ingram combined for 25 saves at the first intermission.
Milwaukee started the second period off hot and found the back of the net just 2:53 into the second period off of Laurent Dauphin's deflection in front of the net. Just a few minutes later, Mathieu Olivier scored on a wraparound bid off the glove of Oettinger to make it 2-0.
The Stars went on a 5-on-3 midway through the period but were unable to convert on the advantage as Ingram made some great saves, including a desperation stop on Gavin Bayreuther. Late in the second period, Emil Djuse fired a shot from just inside the blue line on the power play to cut the Admirals lead in half. Texas ended the game 1-for-4 on the man advantage.
To begin the third period, Texas was called for an early penalty and shortly after the penalty expired, Joel Kiviranta and Joel L’Esperance made their way up the ice on a 2-on-1. Kiviranta’s shot trickled through Ingram and for good measure, L’Esperance tapped it in on the goal line for the equalizer.
However, Milwaukee wasted no time following the Texas goal. Anthony Richard put one home to retake the lead less than two minutes later. Daniel Carr then scored his first of the year on a tip in front of Jake Oettinger that gave the Admirals a 4-2 lead. Frederick Gaudreau and Tanner Jeannot each found the net late on battles in front of the crease to cap off the 6-2 game.
Texas had no shortage of opportunities recording 42 shots in the game. Despite their efforts, Ingram stood tall throughout the entirety of the game, stopping 40 of 42 shots in the contest. Oettinger made 29 saves in the game in the Tuesday night finish.
The Texas Stars return home to H-E-B Center at Cedar Park and will face the San Antonio Rampage on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, at 7 p.m. to begin a home-and-home series with their in-state rival.
