Campbell Posts Second Shutout, Fraser Scores Twice To Lead Texas Over Oklahoma City.

CEDAR PARK, TX – Jack Campbell denied all 20 shots he faced and leading scorer Matt Fraser tallied two goals to give the Texas Stars a 4-0 shutout victory over the Oklahoma City Barons Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 6,863 at Cedar Park Center.

Bretton Cameron opened the scoring for Texas at 16:18 with his first career AHL goal. Cameron deflected a Jamie Oleksiak point shot past the pad of Oklahoma City goaltender Niko Hovinen to put the Stars in front 1-0. Matt Fraser extended the gap to 2-0 at 18:25 during the Barons’ fourth penalty of the frame. Jordie Benn sent the puck wide off the boards and Fraser whipped a sharp-angle wrister that squeezed between Hovinen’s legs and into the net. The goal was Fraser’s team-leading 23rd of the season and gave Oleksiak his second assist of the night.

Justin Dowling kept the ball rolling for the Stars with his eighth goal of the season just 48 seconds into the second period. Alex Chiasson forced a Barons turnover behind the net and Dowling finished top shelf with a wrister from in tight that froze Hovinen’s glove. Texas netminder Jack Campbell protected the 3-0 advantage with multiple first-rate saves throughout the middle frame. The Stars entered the final period with an 18-12 edge over the visitors in the shot column.

Tensions escalated in the third period as the division rivals traded jarring hits. Theo Peckham smashed Chiasson into the boards with just over five minutes to play, resulting in a slew of Oklahoma City penalties and the ejections of both Peckham and Randy Jones. Texas added a little icing on the cake during the ensuing power play as Fraser notched his second goal of the contest. Benn, notching his second assist, sent the puck through the slot and Fraser blasted a one-timer by Hovinen from the right faceoff circle that put the finishing touches on a 4-0 shutout victory.  The goal was Fraser’s AHL-leading 13th power play goal of the year.

Texas goaltender Jack Campbell turned away all 20 Barons shots to earn his tenth victory of the year and tally his second shutout. Oklahoma City starter Niko Hovinen stopped 23-of-27 shots in the loss. Texas outshot the Barons 27-20 and went 2-for-8 on the power play, while the visitors were 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

The Stars will begin a seven-day, four-game road trip on Wednesday, February 20th against the Rochester Americans at 6:05 p.m. CST at Blue Cross Arena.
