Rynnas Stops 25 to Lead Stars Over Marlies, 3-1
Nov 5, 2014CEDAR PARK, Texas – Jussi Rynnas stopped 25 shots to lead the Texas Stars to a 3-1 victory over his former club, the Toronto Marlies, on Wednesday night in front of a sold out crowd at Cedar Park Center.
Rynnas appeared in 73 games for the Marlies from 2010-2013, before competing in Finland last season. It was his first career meeting against his former club, and his third win of the season. Christopher Gibson stopped 34 shots in the loss for Toronto (4-5-0-0).
The Stars head back on the road to visit Charlotte on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. CST.
Greg Rallo and Radek Faksa each scored for the Stars (5-2-2-0), who take over possession of first place in the AHL’s West Division with the win. Spencer Abbott tallied the only goal for the Marlies.
Rallo’s third of the season was a power play goal with 2:55 left in the first period on a tap-in from Scott Glennie’s crossing pass. Faksa added his first of year just over a minute later after driving the net through the right circle on a turnover in the neutral zone. Glennie and Brendan Ranford were credited with the assists on both goals, finishing with two helpers on the night each.
Abbott’s goal came in the second period. The Stars’ Brett Ritchie added his third of the year on an empty-net strike in the games closing seconds.
Stars defenseman John Klingberg saw his five-game point streak come to an end.
Texas finished 2-for-7 on the power play. The Marlies went 0-for-6.
