CEDAR PARK, TX – The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that Dallas has returned right wing Alex Chiasson, left wing Matt Fraser, and right wing Colton Sceivour to Texas. Additionally Texas announced that on Tuesday the team signed right wing Brock Montgomery to an amateur tryout contract (ATO).
By assigning Chiasson, Fraser and Sceviour to the AHL prior to today’s National Hockey League trade deadline (2:00 p.m. CDT), Dallas ensures that all three forwards are eligible for the AHL’s Calder Cup Playoffs. As per NHL rules, only players recalled to the NHL after the trade deadline are allowed to be sent back down to the AHL affiliate for any regular or post-season action. The Texas Stars currently lead the entire AHL with 89 points through 67 games (39-17-5-6) and have nine games remaining on their 2012-13 regular season schedule.
The Stars also announced that Tuesday afternoon (April 2nd) the team agreed to terms with right wing Brock Montgomery on an ATO.
Montgomery, 20, joins Texas after completing his fourth season with the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League. The Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan native had 48 points (31 goals, 17 assists), 76 penalty minutes and a plus-11 rating in 58 games for the Ice this season. The six-foot-two, 217-pound right wing finished the regular season leading Kootenay in power play goals (18), while ranking second in goals, tied for second in plus-minus, third in points and fourth in penalty minutes. Montgomery appeared in 243 career WHL games, tallying 119 points (65 goals, 54 assists) and 328 penalty minutes. He suited up in all five of Kootenay’s WHL playoff games, posting three points (1 goal, 2 assists) and 2 penalty minutes, and led the team in assists and tied for the team lead in points. The Ice lost their first round series to the Edmonton Oil Kings in five games.
