Blumel Leads Stars to Overtime Win in Road Finale
Apr 13, 2024SAN JOSE, California – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, came from behind to beat the San Jose Barracuda 2-1 in overtime Saturday thanks to two goals from Matej Blumel at Tech CU Arena.
Blumel’s game-tying goal in the third period and game-winner in overtime brought the second-year forward to 30 goals this season. He becomes just the seventh player in team history to score 30 in a season and the ninth player to record 60 or more points.
Through a scoreless first period, San Jose held a slight 12-11 edge in shots on goal, but Remi Poirier stopped all 12 he faced and Magnus Chrona stopped 11 Texas attempts at the other end.
The Barracuda took a 1-0 lead 5:14 into the second period when Danil Gushchin snuck a shot through Poirier’s legs that trickled across the goal line on a shortened power play. The Stars had a 11-5 shots advantage in the middle frame, but Chrona carried a 22-save shutout into the third period.
A power play strike from Blumel 1:12 into the third period tied the score for Texas, as the teams skated toward overtime. Just 1:49 into the extra session, Blumel snapped a shot by Chrona from the slot to complete the comeback and send the Stars to victory.
The Stars return home for the final two games of the regular season against the Manitoba Moose on April 19-20 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. Tickets are available at www.texasstars.com/tickets.
