AEROS DOUBLE UP STARS 4-2
Nov 26, 2011Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (8-10-0-1, 17 points) were defeated by the Houston Aeros (11-3-2-4, 28 points) 4-2 in front of 6,274 fans at Cedar Park Center on Saturday night. Houston left wing Joel Broda scored twice in the victory, pulling the Aeros to 7-1-0-1 on the road. Forwards Jon DiSalvatore and Chad Rau also scored for the Aeros. Houston center Casey Wellman registered two assists on the night, as the Aeros took their third game over Texas this season. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (8-3-3) stopped 33 of the 35 shots he faced for the win. Stars’ left wing Mike Hedden netted his first goal of the season and defenseman Jordie Benn also scored. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (7-6-1) stopped 22 of 26 shots as the team fell to 3-6-0-1 at home. The Stars travel to Charlotte to meet the Checkers on Wednesday, November 30th at 6:00 P.M.
Houston got on the board 42 seconds into the first period with a shot from left wing Joel Broda. His first goal of the year gave the Aeros a 1-0 lead, with help from forwards Casey Wellman and Cody Almond. Texas turned around to even the score 1-1 at 2:42, as left wing Mike Hedden drove a shot past Hackett. Forward Ondrej Roman and defenseman Brenden Dillon set up Hedden’s first goal of the season.
The Stars claimed a 2-1 lead 34 seconds into the second period. Defenseman Jordie Benn knocked in his sixth goal of the year on the power play. Forwards Colton Sceviour and Scott Glennie set up the goal. The Aeros responded at 6:49 with a power-play goal by right wing Jon DiSalvatore, tying the game 2-2. Wellman and defenseman Jeff Penner set up DiSalvatore’s eighth goal of the year. Houston center Chad Rau blasted a shot past Bachman with 2:54 remaining in the frame. Forward Justin Fontaine set up the play to help the Aeros snag a 3-2 lead.
The Aeros strengthened their lead at 5:29 of the third period. Joel Broda added his second goal of the night, pushing the Houston lead to 4-2. Center David McIntyre assisted on the final goal of the night.
The Stars will embark on a two-game road swing in Charlotte starting on Wednesday, November 30th at 6:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, December 3rd at 6:00 P.M. Texas returns home on Friday, December 9th to face Charlotte at 7:30 P.M. As part of Sing for Santa local schools will be caroling throughout the evening. Farmers Insurance will present a Texas Stars insulated lunch bag to the first 2,500 fans at the game. Friday is also 3-2-1 night featuring $3 domestic drafts, $2 sodas and $1 hot dogs.
