The Texas Stars split the weekend series with the Henderson Silver Knights at Lee's Family Forum in Henderson, Nevada.
Saturday's game began with Texas striking first just 4:59 into the first frame. Curtis McKenzie threaded a pass from the left point to the slot for Jeremie Poirier, who lifted a backhander over Cameron Whitehead and into the net. It was the fifth time in the last six games that Texas has scored first. McKenzie’s assist was the 300th in his AHL career.
Henderson responded on the power play with eight minutes left in the first. Mitch McLain, from behind the net, found Kai Uchacz in the slot, who snuck it past Remi Poirier to tie the game. The Silver Knights took the lead with 2:07 left in the opening frame as Alexander Holtz wristed a shot between the legs of Poirier.
The Stars were awarded a power play in the final minute of the first period and took advantage. Cameron Hughes fired a pass to Artem Shlaine in the slot, who got just enough of the puck to direct it to Matthew Seminoff. The winger slammed it home to tie the game 2-2 with his eighth power play goal of the season.
Texas lit the lamp in the final minute of the first and in the opening minute of the second. Hughes sprinted down the left wing and wristed a cross-ice pass to Shlaine, whose one-timer put the Stars in front just 10 seconds into the middle frame.
Jack Becker doubled the Texas lead with six minutes remaining in the frame. Luke Krys snapped a shot from the right circle that Becker swiped over the goal line as he was getting knocked down.
Henderson cut the Stars lead to 4-3 with 4:29 remaining in regulation when Brandon Hickey wristed a point shot that Poirier stopped, but Tanner Laczynski knocked home the rebound.
The Silver Knights pulled Whitehead for an extra attacker, and Hughes hit the empty net from his own defensive zone to make it 5-3. Vladislav Kolyachonok added another empty-net marker with 28 seconds remaining.
Poirier stopped 40 shots in the win, while Whitehead stopped 18 of 22 in the loss.
Sunday's rematch was all Silver Knights. Henderson opened the scoring early when Raphael Lavoie netted a breakaway goal 21 seconds into the game. Mitch McLain deflected the puck into the back of the net 11 minutes later to put the Silver Knights up 2-0 heading into the first intermission.
Tuomas Uronen started off the second period when he shot the puck past the blocker side of Arno Tiefensee from the left faceoff dot to add another for Henderson 61 seconds into the period. Kai Uchacz notched a shorthanded goal 10:07 later. McLain scored on a rebound with 5:25 left in the period for his second of the night to make the score 5-0.
Lavoie added his second of the game when he chipped the puck past Tienfensee 3:12 into the final frame. Texas ended the shutout 5:25 into the period when Matthew Seminoff scored a power play goal, flipping the puck past the blocker of Carl Lindbom to put the Stars on the board. Michael Karow cut the Silver Knights’ lead to four, scoring on a point shot from the right wing just over a minute later. Henderson scored their seventh goal of the night with 10:10 remaining, this time from Jakub Brabenec.
Tiefensee stopped 29 of 36 in the loss. Lindbom gave up two goals on 25 shots for the win.

The Texas Stars continue their six-game road trip Wednesday in San Jose, California.
The Stars met the Barracuda back in December at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park where the Barracuda took both games by one goal margins. The first game finished 3-2 and the second needed overtime where San Jose won 4-3.
The Barracuda are led by Filip Bystedt who has 48 points in 53 games. He's logged three points in two games against Texas this season. In net, the Stars saw Gabriel Carriere and Jakub Skarek but since, the Barracuda acquired netminder Laurent Brossoit from the Chicago Blackhawks organization.
The Stars will then travel to Bakersfield, California where they'll meet the Bakersfield Condors for another two games. The Condors visited Cedar Park back on March 13-14 where Texas split the weekend series.
They are led by veteran Seth Griffith who has 55 points in 61 games and rookie Quinn Hutson who has 53 points in 56 games. The Stars saw Matt Tomkins and Calvin Pickard in net in the middle of March and will likely see the same two this weekend in Bakersfield.
