STARS FALL TO AEROS 5-1
Nov 19, 2011Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (7-8-0-1, 15 points) were defeated by the Houston Aeros (10-3-1-3, 24 points) 5-1 in front of 4,930 fans at Cedar Park Center on Saturday night. Four Houston skaters had multi-point nights, including centers Casey Wellman, Chad Rau and defenseman Jeff Penner. Each Aero had a goal and an assist for Houston. Right wing Jon DiSalvatore registered two assists as Houston moved to 6-1-0-1 on the road. Houston goalie Dennis Endras (3-2-1) stopped 24 of 25 shots to seal the Aeros’ victory. Right wing Tomas Vincour scored the lone Texas goal in the first period. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (6-5-1) stopped 14 of 18 shots before he was relieved by Tyler Beskorowany in the third. Beskorowany stopped six of the seven shots he faced. The Stars will host the Chicago Wolves this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Center.
Houston nabbed a 1-0 lead early in the first period at 1:27. Center Carson McMillan found the back of the net with help from right wing Jarod Palmer and defenseman Chay Genoway. Texas tied the game 1-1 with a shorthanded goal from right wing Tomas Vincour. Center Ryan Garbutt set up Vincour’s tenth goal of the season at 4:16. The Aeros took a 2-1 lead with 49 seconds remaining in the period. Center Cody Almond scored on the power play to register his first goal of the year. Defenseman Jeff Penner and right wing Jon DiSalvatore each assisted the team’s second goal of the night.
The Aeros strengthened their lead to 3-1 at 17:56 of the second period. Jeff Penner netted his second goal of the season with assists from DiSalvatore and center Casey Wellman. Houston continued the scoring with 36 seconds left in the frame. Wellman put his eleventh goal of the season in the Texas net to generate a 4-1 Houston lead. Center Chad Rau was credited with the assist.
Houston notched a late third-period goal to grab a 5-1 victory. Chad Rau snapped a shot past Beskorowany with 2:19 remaining in the game. Right wing Jed Ortmeyer and defenseman Tyler Cuma each provided an assist.
The Stars will host the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday, November 23rd at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday is HEB Night. Fans may bring any HEB store brand non-perishable food item to receive $5 off the ticket price. Wednesday is also Winning Wednesday, if the Stars win fans will receive a free ticket to the next Winning Wednesday game. Texas travels to Houston on Friday, November 25th at 7:35 P.M. and returns home on Saturday, November 26th at 7:00 P.M. to face the Aeros. The first 2,500 fans to Saturday’s game will receive a Texas Stars scarf presented by State Farm. Saturday also features the State Farm Family Four Pack (4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, and 4 sodas for $44).
