Brett Ritchie Called Up to NHL’s Dallas Stars

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, announced today forward Brett Ritchie has been called up to the NHL for the first time in his career, and goaltender Henrik Kiviaho has been reassigned to the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads.

Ritchie, 21, currently leads Texas with 11 goals and a +10 plus/minus rating, while he is tied for third on the team with 18 points (11 goals, seven assists) in 22 games this season.  Ritchie was named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 28 after scoring five goals, including two game-winning goals, and registering a +7 rating.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound native of Orangeville, Ontario was selected by Dallas in the second round (44th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.

Kiviaho (KIH-vee-ah-hoh), 20, was on his second call-up to the Stars this season.  The 6-foot-1, 185-pound goaltender has appeared in nine ECHL games this season for Idaho, with a 3.07 goals against average and .886 save percentage.  The Lappeenranta, Finland native was a fifth-round draft pick (144th overall) of the Dallas Stars in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
