Admirals Slow Down Stars 2-1

Milwaukee, WI - The Texas Stars (17-17-1-2, 37 points) were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (21-13-0-1, 43 points) 2-1 in front of 6,885 fans at the Bradley Center on Saturday night. Milwaukee goalie Jeremy Smith (17-7-1) led the way with 25 saves off 26 Texas shots. Admirals Jusso Puustinen and Joel Champange scored 1:15 apart in the first period, helping the Milwaukee end a three-game losing streak. Stars goalie Andrew Raycroft (3-1-1) stopped 23 shots in the defeat, as the team had its five-game Points streak ended with the loss. Forward Mike Hedden scored the team’s lone goal, as the Texas fell to 9-10-0-1 on the road this season. Stars right wing Colton Sceviour continued his torrid pace, extending his points streak to six games with an assist. Texas travels to Rockford for a game on Monday at 1:00 p.m. to face the IceHogs.
Milwaukee jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals just 1:15 apart in the first period. The Admirals claimed a 1-0 lead at 8:32 after Juuso Puustinen snapped in his 13th goal of the year. Taylor Beck and Victor Bartley each had an assist on the power-play goal. Milwaukee made it 2-0 at 9:47 of the opening frame, as Joel Champagne jammed a rebound past Texas goalie Andrew Raycroft. Champagne’s fourth tally of the year was set up by Ryan Flynn and Jonathon Blum. The Stars got on the board at 16:12 with an even strength goal by Mike Hedden. Texas forward Colton Sceviour extended his scoring streak to six games with an assist on Hedden’s fourth goal of the year, as the Stars went to the locker room down 2-1.
Neither team was able to score in the final two periods for the final score of 2-1 in favor of Milwaukee. The Stars outshot the Admirals 15-13 in the final two frames combined.
Texas is in the middle of a four-game road trip with the next stop in Rockford on Monday at 1:00 p.m. The team will conclude its trip in Chicago on Wednesday before returning to Cedar Park Center. Texas will return home on Friday, January 20th to host Peoria at 7:30 p.m. The first 2,500 fans to Friday’s game will receive a player magnet courtesy of Time Warner Cable. Friday is also 3-2-1 night presented by Community Impact featuring $3 domestic drafts, $2 sodas and $1 hot dogs. The Stars take on the Houston Aeros at home on Saturday, January 21st at 7:00 p.m. The first 2,500 fans to Saturday’s game will receive a player card set compliments of Goodwill. Saturday is also a State Farm Family Four Pack night consisting of four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs starting at $48.
