The Texas Stars head home with a 2-0 series lead over the Grand Rapids Griffins in the Central Division Semfinals.
In Game One, the Stars opened the scoring when Kyle Capobianco found the back of the net from near the blue line, his shot making it's way through traffic and past the Griffins netminder, Sebastian Cossa. The goal marked Capobianco's first career playoff goal.
Just over three minutes later, Curtis McKenzie raced down into the offensive zone with Matej Blumel who found him for the tap-in to extend the Stars' lead to two.
The second period held more Texas scoring. Just over five minutes into the frame, Kole Lind tallied his 15th career playoff goal on the power play on a tic-tac-toe passing play from Cameron Hughes and Blumel.
A few minutes later, Texas collected their fourth goal of the evening when Emilio Pettersen redirected a shot from Tommy Bergsland past Cossa. The Stars led 4-0 after 40 minutes of play.
The third period held no scoring for either side but Remi Poirier stopped eight more shots on his way to a 29-save shutout. The final buzzer sounded and the Stars secured the 4-0 shutout win in Game One of the Central Division Semifinals.
Game Two was nearly a week later, six days to be exact. In the first period, the Stars came out swinging once again. Just over three minutes into the game, Luke Krys opened the scoring when Justin Hryckowian found him alone in the slot. Krys fired and beat Griffins goaltender, Jack Campbell, on the blocker side. The tally marked the first career playoff goal for the rookie defenseman.
Nearing the halfway point of the first, the Stars struck again when a scramble in front led to Arttu Hyry poking the puck past Campbell for the 2-0 lead.
In the middle frame, Texas earned an early power play where Hryckowian redirected a shot from Capobianco past Campbell. This marked the second power play goal in as many games. After the halfway point of the game, Matthew Seminoff found a streaking McKenzie up ice who sniped the puck over the glove of Campbell and extended Texas' lead to four. Later in the period, the Griffins found themselves on the power play where they converted for their first goal of the series in over 95 minutes of play.
In the third, Grand Rapids struck again—this time it was Michael Brandsegg-Nygard from the doorstep.
The Griffins comeback attempt ran out of time and the Stars skated away with the 4-2 win and a 2-0 series lead.
