Texas Stars Sign Ethan Werek to Tryout Agreement
FRISCO, Texas - Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has activated forward Jiri Hudler from Injured Reserve and reassigned forward Justin Dowling to the Texas Stars, Dallas' top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.
Dowling, 26, appeared in two games for Dallas and recorded one assist (0-1=1). He made his NHL debut on Oct. 25 and registered his first NHL point with an assist vs. Winnipeg. His eight points in five games with Texas this season are tied for first on the team.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound native of Cochrane, Alberta was signed as an undrafted free agent by Dallas on March 26, 2014.
The Texas Stars also announced they have signed veteran forward Ethan Werek to a professional tryout agreement on Saturday.
Werek (WAIR-ehk), 25, bring 275 games of AHL experience over the past five years to the Texas roster. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound center tallied a goal and two assists in two games this season with the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears. The Markham, Ontario native is a former second-round pick (47th overall) of the New York Rangers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Werek has skated with the Portland Pirates, Providence Bruins and Charlotte Checkers during his AHL career, and tallied 92 career points (42-50=92).
